Lowering on 19's
« on: January 07, 2015, 11:00:47 pm »
Hi all,

So, I've finally found a mk5 gti. I'm looking at lowering her. Thinking coilovers.

My question is, as it's currently on 19's am I likely to run into any problems? I.e excessive scrubbing?

Cheers for any advice :)

Getting there...

19" Gallardo reps, Tinted wing mirror reps, k&n panel filter, seat height 'GTI' inserts, 'open' fog light surrounds.

Too much still to do...

It depends what width and offset the wheels are? Plenty of people (including myself) run 19's and they're fine.

Also what width tyres are you running? 225 is your maximum

Without trying to sound dumb, is there a way to find out what width and offset the wheels are? They were on the car when I bought it. They're a Lambo replica. Tyre's I'm 99% sure are 225/35/19 without going out in the crappy weather :)

If you take the wheels off, around the back of them there should be markings saying something like ET followed by a number which stands for the offset and also something like 8J which would indicate they're 8 inches wide.

What he said, I would guess they are 8j et45 because all the lambo reps I've seen are and its a very common size. If that is the case and they are 225 tyres then you should be fine, you may get the odd touch when weighed down or cornering hard.

Also depends how low you're going, if you are lowering it a lot then you might want to consider getting the front arches rolled as that will help a lot, mine very rarely rub now.
