To be fair, I paid £60 for them in 2008 and they were worth that as I amped them.

Paying near RRP then no chance

If you don't have one a sub would be a better upgrade. Once the bass is filled out it doesn't sound that bad.

I have the soundpack setup in my mk5 (3-ways in front with amp under passenger seat) and they sound much better than stock 2-way, but any bass made by them just makes the door cards rattle  :jumping:

Stock for a GTI is 3 ways front and 2 ways back but with no amp. AFAIK. That's what my GT Sport came with.

Not in the UK, my last GTI and a friends only have two-way setup front and rear.. no mid-range speakers in the front doors. You can really hear the difference, especially when using a later-generation headunit (RNS/RCD510). My R32 was sold to me as having an uprated headunit only, then I discovered the amp under the seat

I was fooled by the air holes already in the mid positions in the door cards, what idiots would put the holes in but no speakers behind  :fighting:
Until I looked more closely and could see the TR door skin through the holes....gutted. Can't help feeling VW have cheated me somehow over me MK4 to Mk5 upgrade
