AXX stage 2+ or CDL/ BHZ conversion

So I've been planning on taking my 100K 05 GTI to stage 2+ for a while however now I'm thinking to put an S3/ ED30 (preferably S3) engine in instead. I was planning to do a K04 conversion at some point in the future anyway so in the long run there won't be much difference cost wise.

From the what I've seen you can pick up CDL/ BHZ engines for about £1600, is there much difference between the two? Are there any problems with either?

I'm sure plenty of other people have had this same dilemma and I've done a fair bit of research into the pros and cons but would appreciate some input from you guys as I'm tearing my hair out trying to decide what to do.

 I plan on keeping the car for a few years and will drive it pretty hard, I want to go on the Autobahn and drive across Europe and I don't want to be wondering the whole time if my AXX engine is up to it, am I being silly or is it worth taking the time to put a newer stronger engine in there.

cheers for that, it was actually reading your comment the other day that planted the seed in my mind and with my engine squeaking atm it made me realise it could be a real PITA somewhere down the line.

I think it's the more sensible way to go isn't it?

I said to myself when I started modding this car that I wouldn't half arse it since by the time I'm done ill probably have to grow up and buy a house or something so I might as well enjoy this while I can.
