I went for the cheapest in case it was crap - http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=201162109859

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

that looks exactly same as the one I bought. Works with no probs  :happy2:
it was plug-n-play and vcds? working with spotify?  can u select songs from the rcd510 screen?

It was plug and play. had to go into the setup menu on the rns510 and select Activate AUX input. whatever you play from your phone/ipod plays through the speakers. Cant select songs on the screen. You would need bluetooth/a2dp streaming for that

it's dead easy! the one i bought was like this :
1. remove the headunit ( follow a guide if you don't know )
2. un-plug the quadlock connector
3. there should be 2 empty spots
4. your aux connector only fits in one of them so just push it in there and it clicks
5. re-connect the quadlock to your headunit
6. guide your aux wire to your center dash part where TPS and traction controll button is and connect the aux-in new button in a empty spot.
7. re-install the radio and all the other dash parts
and your done

took me like 20min top to do this easy mod.

Its just step 6 I need guidance with. I'm not sure what bits I'll need to take apart to get in there.

Ahhh I had lots of fun retro fitting an aux to my MFD2 (yes I know not an RCD510 but food for thought)

I did buy one of these adaptors to plug straight into the back but it didnt work first time around.

Turns out, that dependant of model/varient (to be honest many different things) inc various settings within the head unit itself.
The quadlock connector at the back didnt make the blindest bit of difference, was more of less just a hole

I ended up cutting the quadlock connector off, looking at the wiring diagram at the back of the head unit to locate where L IN, R IN and GND was situated, added the 3x cables from the quad block to pre-existing slots on the loom (no cutting involved)

Pressed Aux, tested = Job done !

I did however buy a headphone pre-amp for £25 off fleebay as the audio output form external sources was a bit low

I can send some pics if you run into trouble, as I took them along the way just in case :driver:

P.s This took a lot of research and phone calls to realise this, should have just looked at the wiring diagram in the first place

Just wandering, do you need to remove the mdi kit to fit one of these, or can it be used side by side?
How hard can it be?

On my RNS, you can go into Setup>Media and there are three settings for 'Aux-in level' - High seems to match the radio volume when my phone is set to half-volume  :happy2:

The MDI kit connects using a different socket altogether, whereas the 3.5mm jack Aux-in socket uses a portion of the quadlock plug. So yes, they can be used side-by-side
