Never heard of gripper?!
Wavetrack are a US company, aren't they? Pretty sure very few, to zero people on here will have experience with them.
I've had a Quaife diff in my old mkiv - transformed the drive of the car! The other diff that seems to be quoted in the UK quite often is Peloquin...

Wavetrac have been featured in Performance VW as well as Quaiffe. This is another one of those discussions that'll have a completely mixed opinion based on peoples experience. Any of the top brands will be amazing, just depends on what's available to you and what your instincts tell you.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

I have a Wavetrac, very happy with it. Extremely smooth, practically imperceptible in it's engagement. No drama of fuss, it just gets the job done. Eliminates torque steer too.
I expect others are good, but I can only speak for Wavetrac, they're are also using unique patented technologies, see here: http://www.wavetrac.net/technical.htm

They're beautifully made, here's mine going in at JKM. My Mk5 is 2009 so was just on the handover to Mk6. It turned out that I have Mk6 transmission which was a surprise.

There is no doubt though that any LSD is a massive improvement over an open diff. As previously mentioned, buy from one of the bigger names in the business and you won't fail to be impressed.

Keep thinking of Diff myself, done a little research on them few months ago and undecided!
Who is best supplier of these various brands and any recomendations on people to fit them etc
A sticky on this reoccurring topic would be handy  :happy2:
