shifting at 2k rpm

Is there anything wrong in shifting at 2k rpm through all gears when driving normally and when waiting for the engine to warm up? I feel it may be too low as I have heard most people shift at around 2.5k.

Think it depends on what type of road you're on. What the incline on the road is, whether you're pulling out at a junction, traffic lights, open road etc etc.
Changing too early into a high gear can put unnecessary strain on the engine. However in day to day driving I change up anywhere between 2-4k with no issues. All depends on the conditions at the time. Don't worry about it mate just drive & enjoy

You can feel if it's too low because the engine gets juddery and you can hear the strain, also you have to put your foot down more than usual.

When mines cold I try to shift below 1800 - 2000rpm
Once the temp needle moves its up to about 2400
Once its at 90 then up to 3250
And then when its been 90 for a good few minutes/ miles and the oil is warm I'll feel comfortable booting it.

As above it depends on the road etc.. Just do what you feel is right

on a day to day basis, I drive mine 2k and at the very most 3k gear changes (granny driver me lol)

2K RPM is fine while the engine is warming up. Really, keep the RPM below where the turbo begins to spool until the engine is starting to warm. This ensures warm oil is fed to the turbo before it begins working which just helps to keep it working as it should over the life of the car.

Once it's warm, it's good to kick it and take the engine up through the full rev range as this will make sure the turbo gets used and fresh, warm, filtered oil makes it way around flows everywhere it should.

It's just as bad (some say arguably) labouring a cold engine, chugging along at 1200rpm.
drive more, worry less.

buy a polar fis http://www.auto-polar.com/ and you will see digital water temp and oil temp then you can know exactly what the car is doing

OK great thanks everyone. Just one more question tho.. At 30mph do you guys stay in 4th or put it into 5th as mine usually idles around 1,500 rpms

I normally leave it in 4th

I usually, start the engine and wait for the revs to drop before moving off. Then I will change gear between 1500- 2500/3000rpm with light-medium throttle. I won't boot it until after about 30 minutes, when the oil and water have reached full operating temperature. Also during this time the brakes and the tyres would have warmed up. So when I do floor it I know the brakes and tyres are 'there' and not too cold especially in these winter months on summer tyres.

Always let the revs drop before moving off too & don't boot it until the needle has been at 90 for a while.

30mph = 4th ------> 40mph = 5th
in normal conditions

A DSG car would probably be in 5th by the time you hit 30mph, so I wouldn't have thought there'd be any worries about labouring the engine if VW have programmed it to do that..??
