Bloody tricky one this. Don't bother with a mk7 R, as good as they are leasing one will mean you're forced to drive it stock the whole time. Plus you then have to give it back and then watch it get sold for silly cheap money (by people like me), and you'll think that if you just saved all the money you spent on a lease deal you could of bought it instead in a few years.

In the mean time, stage 2+ you current engine. If it's still not enough, get a CDL engine. Just make sure you buy stage 2+ parts that can swap over (mainly thinking about the intake here) so then you can instantly stage 2+ a CDL engine should you wish.

You make some good points sir, all my stuff is interchangeable so that's good to go. My problem with the R (which is why I want to try one) is I think it will be to 'safe' and that will make it a bit boring. I went for a drive in mine last night and all I could think was I can't imagine the 4wd system could be this fun, I had enough traction to put the power down but I had to work for it with throttle moderation and the odd short shift which is the whole theatre and fun of driving for me.

The R's are in a different world in terms of handling, you could call it "safe" or you could call it "unbelievable grip" but without driving one you can't be certain which it is.

My philosophy is to do the cheapest and/or easiest thing first when it comes to cars.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

By all accounts you'll be smitten by a spin in the mk7 R.

If a mk7R is a serious option then I would go down that route. Haven't had the pleasure of driving or been a passenger in one but they look lovely. As for "only" having 300bhp a tuning box will sort that to 360ish and if any probs just take it off.

A lot of lease deals seem to be 20k miles and two years. Then you pay per mile. Another deciding factor maybe.

True but the charge seems to be minimal because a friend was looking at leasing a 6R a while ago and he does about 20k a year but the monthly payments were still very reasonable.

If VW ever get back to me I need to try one and I'll probably know within 5 minutes if I want one.
