Personally I'd go for the strongest you can lay your hands on!
Just got some meself to do my plateE magnet uk loads to choose from I got 3.5 kg magnets x10 very strong indeed and brought some adhesive to stick them aswell
Fitted the 10 magnets on and would say lost a little force.5 each side and holds ok but I probably buy a few more to be safe
I did it with rectangular neodymium magents from eBay. Only cost a few pound and are the strongest natural magnet you can buy I believe.Used maybe 10 and it held just fine. Think I might actually have the how to and pics in my build thread

Use either N35 Neodymium magnets (from eBay, linky below to the ones I've got) or Double Sided Suction cups (eBay too, linky below to the ones I bought). I have an American smoothed grill and have both types, suction ones on the car and a magnet plate in the boot in case the other one goes AWOL.You'll get a wee bit of scratching on the grill after time, no way around that with trapped dirt and other road detritus but nothing that can't be polished out.Magnets....~~ Clicky here ~~Suction cups...~~ Clicky here ~~
