Checks to do on a TDI? and performance upgrade?
« on: January 19, 2015, 01:40:37 pm »
Whats up guys, I was just wondering as i'm new to the MK5's, I see a lot of people with GTI's changing  PCV, DV and HPFP cam follower.. I was wondering are these on a TDI as well or what are the equivalent things that I should be checking?

Also does anyone have an intake kit on the TDI? And would these make a difference to performance or anything? Havnt done anything performance wise before so a bit new to it. And what else mods could i do?

Thanks  :happy2:

Not to sure about common faults, but as long as it's had regular servicing you should be fine. For modifying a diesel, check out Jay's build on his Rocco;

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

You might not want to go to such big modification... It's not cheap to reach that level. :sad1:

Depends on what is your target, really. 170HP are safely achievable with the mods I've made. Our lump needs new injectors/nozzels to reach 200HP.

Jay had a 1.9 TDI before which he modded to a great extent as well: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,64568.0.html.

Cheers

My gttdi started at 140 model but is now on 220bhp. ... keep thinking of going down the bigger turbo of dark side developments but the cost would be 4k of which I think I may as well sell mine and get ed30

I had a 1.9 105 before
PD130 injectors
darkside gtb1756 kit on a cast manifold
full 2.5 inch tbe no silencers etc
uprated clutch and single mass flywheel
gave me 221bhp and 365lb ft on darksides very honest dyno and gives real world figures!
(for reference my scirocco did 194.2 on darksides dyno and did 203 on another local dyno and 340lb ft on dsd and 385 on the local one).

handling mods, arbs etc.
many many things.

someone linked my thread above, most of the pics are broken because imageshack ruined everyones lifes.

engine costs
remap to about 150bhp = 300 quid
~~~~~
pd130 injectors approx = 200 quid
injector seal kit (you MUST get this) = 85 quid and fitting is fiddly be careful who you get to fit them as if they're not timed properly it will run crap
gtb1756vk kit with fitting and mapping etc = think it's 1700+ vat so approx 2200
egr delete = 80 quid
clutch = 700 + fitting
you also need much better brakes, r32 set up at the very least, so you need to swap the front hubs and fit 55mm suspension components, and other bits and pieces. better suspension, bushes, anti roll bars etc..
If I bought the turbo and got it fitted by them thing it was £2200 +vat then is their also the map to pay for as well which I think is £400
