windscreen super clean
« on: January 18, 2015, 04:27:41 pm »
My windscreen is in awful shape and no matter what I do I just cant seen to get I very clean. I have seen this video on youtube about going over your windscreen with "0000" grade wire wool and it looks like it works well but wanted to know if anybody in here has tried this before or anything similar?

I'm ultra picky with windscreens. The best thing you can do, if get a stanley knife blade, drench the windscreen with soapy water and with the blade at a 30 degree angle to the screen, gently push it over the screen, with little pressure. You'll hear a grit like noise at first, but with a few goes over the same area, the noise will go and you'll have a very clean screen. A quick once over with a screen cleaner and it'll be a very clean screen!!!

Saw that video the other day and was going to try it out on an old bit of glass I have for a caddy van to make sure it doesn't scratch it

You have to clean the screen first and then apply the rainx as it's only a rain repellent

Great guide. I love detailing and was always frustrated on how the windscreen never looked "brilliant" i will certainly use this. :)

I've only ever needed to clay and use IPA on glass. Not heard of using wirewool but I know detailers who've used cerium oxide to polish the glass properly.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

In the end I used the blade method followed by clay then rain x glass cleaner/rain repellent, worked a treat and my windscreen is like new again
