Factory xenon help

We'll I picked my car up from ridgeway on Saturday and 1 of the things they had to do was polish my headlights, but since I picked the car up the self levelling isn't working. Am I right in thinking that once they removed them they should have re-calibrated them when they was refitted?

No movement at all when you turn the ignition on in the dark? Silly question number 1: they are factory fit aren't they, with washer jets underneath!? I would've thought that after removal they would revert to their previous settings, so would still self level?

Edit: When I replied I assumed you'd picked up a new (to you) car and this was a pre-delivery task... but re-reading it I don't know why! Presumably they were self levelling before they went in then!?

No movement at all. Yes they are factory fit with washers underneath. I have also checked the levelling unit on the rear suspension and it's all connected

Do they sweep up/down when you turn the ignition on?

There are two level sensors on opposite corners (front n/s & rear o/s), if either of them are faulty or disconnected it should prevent the self levelling from not working.

When they've had the car on the ramps, one of the levelling sensors will have gone past 'bottom dead-center' and will be trying to move in the wrong direction, meaning it's out of range. It happened to mine twice, and I've fixed it by jacking the car up at the affected corner and pulling the sensors 'arm' past its lowest point and back into its operating range  :happy2:

Second that. Also you checked the back sensor but your front passenger side could also be a culprit. You don't even need to remove the wheel.

With you car jacked just cock the wheel and you can get around it.

It's not that it operates and automatically runs. If you've ever seen the sensor you'll see what he means.

It's on an arm hinge the pivots on a ball. It's always over one side because the car is under the pressure of it's own weight. By jacking it up the pressure comes off and the hinge can then loosen enough and actually rotate back the other direction.

It would be a similar concept to your elbow but what's happened is now your elbow has dislocated and has gone the opposite direction. A very easy fix and it hasn't actually damaged anything.

Thanks for the replys guys. Luke that actually made sence lol. Basically then there lifted the car and the rod has maxed out and pivet'ed the other way. Just wait for a call from ridgeway now and let them know  :happy2:

Yeah as luke better explained, I'd be 99% sure that's whats happened  :wink: this condition will cause a fault code to register, which can be deleted via vagcom or a similar system.

It happened to my rear leveling sensor when I had my Golf fitting new dampers. The error on VCDS can be deleted but unless you correct the position of the sensor it comes back and the system doesn't work properly.

I do have a snap-on solus at work but should I let ridgeway sort it out as if there's another problem with it then it's down to them ?

If the sensor is mispositioned it's a very easy fix. You only need to delete the error in the ECU after.
