Squeeky belt noise from engine bay... HELP!!!!!
« on: January 20, 2015, 08:51:07 am »
Hey people

Need some advise please

The last 3 days i have had this Squeeky belt noise come from the engine bay. I dont know anything about engines etc but i have attached a image below to show you where its coming from. Can somebody please tell me what it is and how it can be fixed. Im hoping its something minor!

My car is going into VW tomorrow anyway to have cambelt/water pump and DSG service but the last thing i need is more money to be spent.

See (stock) image.....Its coming from the bottom left of the picture where the belt spins...

Please help. Many thanks

Sav

sounds like the fan belt. VW should advise you what it is.

not as much as cambelt change. My polo used to squeek and i had to change the belt and the alternator pulley.

Definitely this, while the engineers are pulling things off anyway, it'll mean you won't pay extra labour for the job as it's part of the cam belt process (pretty much).

I would be surprised if VW understood what you meant if you asked them to do this job. It's relatively easy if you follow the how-to guide on here, saves paying an hour of labour and a good way to get to know your engine. But I appreciate that not everyone wants to get into the engine bay with tools. :happy2:

Have you considered using a local VW specialist rather than main dealer? For example, I live near AMD Tuning in Essex, they do all the same level of work (if not better) than a main dealer but it costs less. Plus they know most of the other things to check for whilst working.
