I use similar magnets to those that MC71 linked too, think I use 12 in total (6 paired up) and it's held on perfectly well. Everyone who does this mod is scared that they won't be strong enough, but think how much a numberplate weighs... A few kg of force is more than enough to hold something less than half a kg in place securely. I did a shake test when doing the mod and you'd have to apply some serious force (i.e. a crash or considerable amount of air time) before it falls off.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

+1 even when backed with foam, 6 magnets each side are plenty strong enough.
The plate 'snaps' into position as the magnets are that strong.
Mine has been on for over a year now.
Its a great mod.

Thanks for the pics above! ^^

Didnt think it would sit flush!

I currently have the UK Spec front grill - Do you think the magnets will be strong enough to hold it through the number plate holder that it has?

Number plate holder is normally removed unless you mount magnets behind the holder?
The magnet mod is normally done in conjunction with a smooth / us grill.

Did you cover the magnets with some thin foam backing?
