Leaking Sunroof Drain Repair
« on: January 21, 2015, 04:46:36 pm »
So I was baffled by a car leak I had on my driver side. The water was saturating the mat but I couldn't see where it was entering.

I cleared out the sunroof drain and figured it wasn't the culprit. Although the inlet and outlet to the drain was clear. It had actually unhooked inside the driver side pillar.

There's a small tube that runs from the hole in the corner of your sunroof drain, down inside the driverside pillar and out into the engine bay drain.

This tube sits into a small plastic insert but can easily pop out as they only barely reach one another.

I fixed it by getting the top off a tube of silicone and jamming it into the plastic insert and reattaching the hose.

Now in 2024
As the Mk5's get older the plastic pipes appear to shrink in length (I guess due to the hot and cold cycles)
I used a bit of clear tube that I fitted over the downpipe and into the rubber outlet
If one side is leaking do both
