Plenty gyp from Polar FIS+ Advanced
« on: January 28, 2015, 09:01:33 pm »
Chaps (and chappettes), fitted a Polar FIS+ advanced today after updating to the latest firmware for red clusters (Octavia 1Z). Having a few teething problems most notably:

* Mirror dip doesn't really work properly, I can set the mirror positions but then it doesn't actually drop the mirror in reverse.

* Still can't change to a menu when either the audio or nav menu is selected until I turn the head unit off or stop the navigation. I've tried turning BAP on and off but to no avail.

* Climatronic display works - sort of. When you switch on auto, the display reads auto off.

* VCDS is having a hard time connecting and reading modules, particularly nav 037 and engine 001.

I downgraded the firmware to 4.4 after reading - few posts that suggested it was the least buggy, but that's not helped either.

Any suggestions? I have a FISCON basic plus that displays coolant and oil temp, so the important bits for me were being able to switch in and out of the nav screen and display Climatronic info, with a view to being able to further add an OPS module and, later, a more up to date BT module. If it also gives me grief trying to connect to VCDS, I might as well sack it off and get a 50 quid boost gauge instead.

Any suggestions? It's an hour's work to strip apart and reconnect everything going in through the scuttle panel.

Cheers

Hi John. Some of the issues you describe are quite common and unfortunately ones you will have to live with.

I tried the mirror dip function but found it to be very hit and miss. It would keep trying to drive even though the mirror was at its limit so I don't bother using it. My mirror is set to the kerb permanently as I only use it for parking.

Not sure about the menu issue.

I also found the climatronic display emulation to be extremely hit and miss. It would only show the display for the heated rear window.

VCDS won't work correctly while on the Polar screen. If you scroll to one of the normal screens you should find it connects fine.

Sorry I couldn't help you much more mate. I've had a few of the same issues but learned to live with them and come to the conclusion that its down to limitations of the unit.
