Standard car Vs REVO stg 1

Dunno if this wants to go in the tuning section or not but anyway:

My car is standard at the moment and is getting Revo stg 1 next monday. At the moment i find the car pulls strongly until about 6800rpm or so then gradullay runs out of puff.

Q1 Is this right for a standard car?
Q2 Where will the car run out of puff on stage 1, I assume (and hope) it will be a bit higher up the rev range?

K03 turbo will start loosing power at around 6100rpm.. K04 about 6800rpm.. GT2871R at around 7300rpm and GT3076R about 8k..

Thats from my experience anyways..

I take it thats on a standard and mapped cars?

At least mine is running bang on the money as standard in that case.

You'll find the k04 turbo(ed30) wont run outa puff at the redline which you shouldnt be redlining the engine in anycase regularly, unless you fancy a Con Rod making an appearance!!. :scared:

You'll find the power will come in about the same time but just about a third more pull then before.
On the downside, as with the bigger turbo, you WILL  notice more turbo lag down below 2500rpm.

You wont be disappointed. The car transforms  :happy2:

Yes - A remap will not significantly alter the operating range of the turbo, this is a hardware limitation afterall, although I think the soft limiter is raised slightly in some remaps allowing you to wring an extra few 100rpm at the top end. What it will do, is improve how effective the turbo is within that operating range i.e. dramatically increased boost pressure, fuelling etc., which results in more power within the afore mentioned operating range.

As jonny points out, to improve the operational range of the turbo, you need a hybrid, or a different one altogether.
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?

That depends what you call redline? I revved my ED30 to 7500rpm on a standard motor, its completely fine.. 7000rpm is the standard rev limit, they would live on that all day long with no issues what so ever..

And yes, it does start to loose power around 6800rpm..

Just look at the Supercopa cup cars and the N24 Scirocco.. Standard motors with K04 running 350hp (approx in the case of the scirocco for 24hours)

Mapping the car will not suddenly bring the turbo alive as Animal states, it will just wake it up within its operational rpm.. That all depends on the size of the turbo

I agree with you jonny, but my car im planning to keep, and cant afford an engine rebuild later on!!!.
Youve would of sold up and made it someone else's problem  :wink:

Modern cars have soft limiters well below the true 'red-line' and well within the tolerances of the engine. Redlining a forced induction car is often just waste of time and fuel more than anything else as you're normally well on the way out of the power band by that point.

If you think your going to throw a rod at 7k rpm then your very much mistaken.. My ED30 has 30k miles on it and it doesn't use a drop of oil, runs perfectly, oil comes out super clean every 4k miles..

The only problem your going to come up against is revving over 8k on a standard head, thats top end, not bottom.. There's cars out there than have been dragged at well over 500whp on standard motors revving to 8500rpm.. Guess what, there still running now!

Like anything, if you look after it then it'll last.. The problem comes when the cars are driven around by uninformed clueless chimps

The software cuts the engine at pre-set rev limit. The engine will physically rev beyond this point, but the software prevents it as a safe-guard. ECU cuts the spark when reaching the preset limit.

A hard-cut/-limiter usually comes as a last resort a few RPM later as a fail safe and usually cuts the fuel resulting is more noticeable drop in power.

If I have understood this correctly, one of the things the DSG remap does is increase the threshold at which the rev limiter cuts in.  

So, if the power tails off well before the limiter - wots the point of it?
