Softer pedal feel after r32 brake change?
« on: January 30, 2015, 11:08:08 pm »
Alright guys been knocking about in the back ground for a while but I've got hold of an edition 30 and started making some progress in getting so,e changes done

When I bought the car it had r32 front brakes fitted to the front and the pedal feel was great but I had a set of r32 brakes refurbed by brake caliper refurbs waiting to be fitted, got my local garage to put them on with a set of hel braided lines for good measure and now I swear the pedal feel is softer and there is more travel before anything happens. Which sounds wrong if hel lines are supposed to stiffen? I may be going crazy but any further advice would be much appreciated, got a set of r32 rears to be fitted as well but wanna solve this first

As always thanks in advance
Tommy

have you toped up the brake fluid? maybe when they were changed what was lost wasn't fully replaced.

Did the garage do a proper bleed/abs pump purge using VCDS? It's generally the only way to get a decent pedal after a fluid change and the reason I only ever use the dealer for a fluid change

Shouldnt need to do ABS unless you've accidentally let the reservoir empty. My R32s needed a hefty second bleed to get a good pedal.

Soft pedal = air in the system

Cheers for the quick responses

They have power bled it twice apparently i took it back straight after with concerns about the lack of feel and sharpness
Ive got a specialist who couldnt fit for being fully booked, ill give them a bell and see if they will cycle it through again

When I fitted my S3 fronts the pedal was a bit soft. VW bled it whilst doing a fluid change and it was much better

Currently if your brakes firms up with pedal pumping - then I would go for the VCDS cycling of the pump and bleeding. :happy2:
