Left Sidelight Not Working Now After LED Install

A few weeks back I installed front LED sidelights.  All was well for around a week, then suddenly I got a warning on the dash to tell me the passenger side sidelight wasn't working.  I assumed this was the bulb.

On Sunday I finally got around to installing a new LED bulb, this however still didn't work.  I then tried a couple of standard 50p sidelight bulbs and these wouldn't work either.

My next option was to look at the fuses.  Looked in the owners manual and it said these were in the fuse box under the bonnet and were F47 & F48 (I think!!!).  These were the two fuses for the two sidelights and were large and orange in colour.  I swapped these around but still the passenger side sidelight will not work.

Anyone else had this or have any ideas how to fix this?

Ok, so having spent most of my morning at work looking at this I have read that a lot of manuals show fuse positions for left hand drive cars and should be looked at mirrored or upside down!!

Can anyone tell me exactly what fuses are for the sidelights on the GTi?  Any pictures would be especially helpful.  Cheers

Should be F25 and F26 are you def the correct ones there are a couple big fuses together

Boustie, are F25 and F26 the ones I need to look at then?  Have you ever had to change these fuses before?  Thanks for your help.

I just pulled my f25 and f26 and side lights go off left and right. Never had to change one really they don't usually go. Pretty easy to check tho

Fuse should control front and rear so check rear as well.

Went out to the car last night to have a look at these fuses.  Just before I done this I turned the lights on to see if anything had changed.  Now magically the sidelights on both sides are working???

I have no idea how this has happened but as long as they are working I am happy.

Are they still working?

I have just fitted 2 new LEDs to replace some older ones (very long story) and we're working fine when first fitted ( had the headlights out and bumper off, took ages) and now one is working and the other isn't.

I can't even imagine how I'm meant to get to the drivers side light with the headlights on

Strange one??  I still occasionally get a warning on the dashboard, but like I said it seems to clear itself the next turn of the ignition or so.

Have you tried a standard bulb back in its place, could just be the bulb?  Alternatively as @boustie suggests, try swapping F25 and F26 fuses from the under bonnet fuse box and see if that makes a difference, could be a fuse gone.

With regards to the drivers side sidelight, it is a PITA but... the way I do it is wrap the cable running to the bulb around a finger and gently wobble the thing up and down and pull slightly and the bulb seat thing comes free.  Saves removing the bonnet.  This is only advice mind, as potentially you could damage the cabling etc.

It's a brand new bulb so shouldn't be that, I haven't tried a standard bulb yet as its so tricky to get to

On top of that I now have 2 led bulbs floating around the front of the headlight haha, what a pain.

I'll try the fuses first

So no f25 and f26 fuses in my fuse box

Must be a lose connection or loose bulb

Can only be that I reckon.  Check your user manual aswell in case the fuses are different on your car for some reason.

Managed to change the bulb which was a complete pain in the ...

But all is working, for now.....

Not sure why a new bulb would last 5 mins but hey ho
