Front brake disc change, advice please.
« on: January 29, 2015, 08:18:27 pm »
I'm going to change my front brake discs the next couple of days, it's not something I've done before so I'd like a bit of advice.

I've read a few bits online and I'm quite confident in doing the task. Is there anything anyone thinks I should make sure to do? Tips and advice greatly appreciated.

I've read I should copper grease the hub, the carriers and clean any sh*t that's built up.
Anything else I need to know or do?

If I remember I'll take some photos of the steps as a guide for anyone else, one of you will probably have to annotate the photos as I won't know the right names for different bits.

Thanks.

Halfords have a good set of axel stands in for a tenner, only issue I had was getting the disk off the hub, after removing the screw holding the disk on it was well stuck on. As I didn't have a puller I just hit it with a lump hammer at the top bottom then sides until it fell off.

Probably not the best way of doing it but it worked!
How hard can it be?

They're not in the sale anymore, my mates got some and a trolley Jack he's lending me, saves me out laying £50 or whatever.

Did you use axle stands Andy? Where's the best place to put them?
