nut stuck on downpipe
« on: January 27, 2015, 03:09:25 pm »
my dad took my car to get my decat put on yesterday ,but they encountered a problem..they got the two nuts off on top and one from underneath but the final one they said was going to shear off and was not going to risk it..they said it would be 4-5 hours work to basically take the turbo off aswell..

any suggestions?
my dad said we could cut the last one with a hack saw blade and then just have 3 holding it on..

basically paid
£75 for the decat
£50 to get it cut and modified
and dont really fancy paying £200 to strip everything off..ill just not put it on

cheers

Better to do it properly mate. if there is a bolt missing, you will have a major leave and lose boost

I've had a few snap off or chew up the threads before.  Always managed to either remove the stud that is left and replace, or drill out the stud.

Luckily I've never had to remove a turbo to fix.

i would manage taking the turbo off but is a major ball ache just to fit my decat :( is they enough room to drill it out though if i manage to cut and free it? i know its pretty tight up there...if i cant find a cheaper option  i will just sell it  :sad1:

I had 3 studs holding my DP on as one snapped while doing the pre-cat delete...
That went back on fine as did the 3 inch decat pipe.. no blowing even with the Revo stage 2.. alex said it was also pretty pokey....no boost leaks... I did some of the best MPG out of anyone on the forum with the car in that state... nearly 500 miles to a tank, yes please!!!  :jumping: :jumpmove:

Many snap to be honest it's not that uncommon

if you are stood underneath looking up it's nearly always the bottom right bolt that snaps.

the guy who was going to fit it said they would be no problem with 3 holding it on..i was a bit dubious about it though...5000 to a tank with the decat!! how is that possible ;')

and yes that is the one that wants to snap....so what would you advise? trying to cut it with a hack saw then take the whole exhaust off and take the bolt out aswell and put a new one in or leave it for the time being?

cheers

i managed to do the pre cat delete on some axle stands laid on my back...so i cant work out how it wouldn't come off at a proper garage!! :/
