DSG / S-Tronic Software Update
« on: November 23, 2009, 01:56:36 pm »
My car went into Audi today for it's first service along with a huge list of things that were wrong with it, one of them being a jerky DSG box. A few guys on the forum have experienced this problem and subsequently had the mechatronics unit replaced. Audi have just rang me to say that there was a recall on my car because of this problem and that a software update will solve this, I am not holding out any hope TBH but we will see what happens.

The main thing I am concerned about is this update wiping my Revo Software, I have the SPS Switch but if the software is wiped completely will it still work? If anyone can shed any light on this it would be much appreciated  :happy2:

If the software update is for the mechatronics/gearbox ECU  only then your Revo stuff should be fine, but if it's the main ECU then it will be lost and will need reflashing  :sad1:

Unfortunately mate. 99% it will be wiped back to stock as if there is any ECU update they will do that too..

It happened to mine a while ago, since then I have never taken any of my cars to main dealers as they also managed to scrape 2 wheels and scratch the bottom of the door..

The SPS will only work if there is a Revo file on there..

Even if they wipe the ECU then any Revo agent will be able to reflash it for a nominal fee, usually half an hours labour or so.

Thanks for the speedy replies guys  :happy2:

I hope the update is for the gearbox ECU only otherwise it's looking like a reflash which is a PITA  :sad1:

Will see what happens later on today

If your jerky DSG box is the same as mine was then the first thing they will try via guided fault finding will be basic settings.

On mine this made things worse. Next was the Mechatronics and since then (touching wood) it has been spot on.

I am expecting that this 'update' isn't gonna help, if it is not perfect I will be straight back to Audi on the quest for a new mechatronics unit  :happy2:

Interesting topic this.  When I had my BMW 335, it required a full system update, via the dealer to germany, which took 12+hours, so I presumed that my map would be wiped.  When I got the car back 24 hours later, the update had been carried out, but my re-map was still there - touch!

Had this update done on Friday. Service manager knows of me and asked if it was "chipped" as the update would write over it.  On the jerkiness front, didn't work. Now booked in for the mechatronics unit.

Ok so collected the car last night and immediately the DSG felt a lot smoother and a LOT less jerky so it seems the update is working for now, I will keep a close eye on it but for I am very happy so far

Within minutes of getting the car I plugged the Revo SPS switch into the OBD port as I was worried that my map would have been wiped by the DSG update. Much to my surprise the map loaded straight away  :happy2: All in all I am very happy apart form being £260 lighter for a service  :surprised:

Just out of curiosity I left the car in stock mode last night as I had driven around with the stage 1 map on for months. Straight away the car felt sluggish, low on torque and generally just very very dull to drive. I loaded the map back on this morning and the difference is astonishing, it just makes the car sooooooo much better to drive in every way! Anyone who is thinking of getting their car remapped.....DO IT!  :happy2:
