cannot find my can bus
« on: January 13, 2015, 03:03:03 pm »
So, i have my new can bus from Eddie and I have now ordered my RCD510. As the sun is shining i thought i'd quickly pop the can bus in so it's ready for the new head unit. I checked a few guides and apparently it's by either the clutch or accelerator pedals. I've popped the trim off easy enough but cannot see the gateway for love nor money.

then i found this: http://www.r32oc.com/topic/29242-canbus-gateway-location-removal/

Has anyone done it this way? Am i going to have to go down the route of removing my windscreen wipers?? any tips/pointers/advice would be useful.

thanks!

thanks - i'll take a closer look. My car is a 56 plate and registered in september 2006 so it must be near the clutch. Couldn't see it all earlier though!

Mine is a 56 plate and can bus is above the pedals. Problem is you have to get you head right under and look up, while on your back with legs sticking out of the car lol.
Its quite awkward to get the connector plug unclipped.

Well, i finally managed to get this done yesterday!

It was a bit of a pig but not too bad in the end. My canbus was buried above the accelerator pedal. Once i removed the drivers side cubby hole i could just about see a red tab poking out but it was behind a load of other stuff and i couldn't reach my hand that far back. Until i realised that some of the stuff in front of it could be unclipped. Once that was moved to one side i could tease the old gateway out and simply unplug it and plug in the new one. Not too bad in the end.

Thanks for the pointers all!

Glad its all sorted mate

Got a question myself. Looking to purchase a RNS 510 nav Version C for my 2005 Golf mk5.

It will probably drain the battery but the seller is saying that he will update the firmware via a cd and that should prevent the battery drain. Is this possible?

If not, how much would it cost including coding for the gateway? Could i get the correct part number for the gateway?

Thanks in advance

MAH

Hi.
Yes it is possible to have RNS with such a software. Only one disadvantage - you cant upgrade the software otherwise you will get battery drain. So basically you stuck with only one SW version.

@MAH you need to contact @Eddie-NL for a new canbus. He provided me with a new one for around £70 (i think). Arrived safe and sound and once i could get to the gateway in my car it was a simple swap over.
