Not quite a golf, and not quite a GTI.
« on: January 31, 2015, 03:09:13 pm »
Alright guys. First post here, but a few may know me already from other forums.

I'm Tom, and I drive a golf with a big boot!

IMG_6723 by Tom.Walton1, on Flickr

Car started out as my daily whilst I built a big powered TDI, and was intended to stay standard, but one thing led to another, the project was broken off in parts, and this took centre stage so to speak. Still driven daily now though, and just turned 140k miles the other day!

Brief spec,
Airlift XL struts/bags with V2 management.
Purple leather interior, front seats from Leon K1 and headrest-less rear bench.
Brembo 4pots all round painted in metallic grey.
 ED30 style front valance.
 GLI sideskirts and rear valance.
BBS Callito and Autostrada Monza wheels.
Darkside Developments decat downpipe and cat-back system.
 Darkside EGR delete.
Darkside map making a cleanish 185bhp and 310ftlb.
Still plenty more plans for it yet!

And no pictures of the purple interior..? How dare you tease us! Plus I've spotted that each of your pictures sports different alloys so again, more on that please. Looks rather tasty!

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Don't really have many interior shots at the minute strangely, but will try get some more.
Here's a couple for now though,

It's also safe to say, I'm working towards having had my fair share of wheels.

Started out with a set of Rotiform reps

IMG_2523 by Tom.Walton1, on Flickr

Then went to a set of Mercedes Eltanins that I had Diamond cut.

IMG_0975 by Tom.Walton1, on Flickr

Following that, it was a set of A5 Speedlines. Still my favourites, and great fitment with no spacers required.

IMG_4833 by Tom.Walton1, on Flickr

Treated myself to an all time favourite set of wheels, Autostrada Monza, which I still own now.

IMG_6749-2 by Tom.Walton1, on Flickr

Then a set of BBS Callito's for my winter wheels and are still on the car at the minute.

IMG_7967 by Tom.Walton1, on Flickr

And finally, just bought a set of 17" OZ futura's. currently sorting parts to make them wider as at the minute they are 8.5's all round. Going for 9.5 et30 up front and 10j et25 on the rear. Safe to say its going to be wide!

Welcome dude  :drinking:

Are the A5's 18x8.5? They do work well actually, you're right. Better than one A5's themselves in fact...
I've been searching for some OEM fit 18x whatever wheels for my 8P3 A3 Black Edition and I just go full circle back to the OEM 18x8 ET43 RS4's that the A4's came on, mugs game selecting wheels isn't it...   :rolleye:

Car looks understated & smart anyway  :happy2:

Cheers buddy! For a daily driver, its worth every penny! You just cant get mk5's low and maintain any form of driveability!
My friends was silly, and every little lump in the road was a pants change moment.

Yes they are 18x8.5's. Only thing I would say is, the offsets are fairly low (et29) and can take a bit of fitting without poking too much. I love choosing wheels haha. Wish I had more money to choose wheels more often!

Welcome to the forum pal! You have a fantastic taste sir!

Thankyou kind sir  :drinking:

Couple more pictures of the interior.

It's Bridge or Weir "Totem Purple" leather, with alcantara dash/door card inserts and armrest. Eventually plan on retrimming the headlining and pillars, probably in alcantara too, but money is tight at the minute due to moving house and upsizing.

Safe to say this thing is sexy! Not a massive fan of the seats, but i appreciate everyones different tastes.

You do however have good taste in wheels! Futuras  Wanted a set, but 18's are pretty rare, and my last set of 17's looked tiny!

Keep it up - More progress please!  :happy2:

Great build! Awesome wheels you've got and had.   Those seats look great, just not loving the purple. I'd go for black or camel. But glad there are different tastes so we can have the chance to see different and beautiful cars from others as well.

The boot build is awesome too. :notworthy:

Keep up the good work!
