Getting embarassed by other cars
« on: February 03, 2015, 11:43:18 am »
Come on then, owe up! Who's been surprised or beaten by another car before in the GTI?!

I wouldn't say beaten but this morning I had a little play with a Peugeot 106 GTI. Damn I didn't realise they were so quick! In my defense I saw him about to overtake me at speed so I put my foot down too and it wasn't until I was approaching double figures that I started to reel him in. A bit dissappointed but he did have a big head start I think it would have been a different story if we both started even ;)

106 gti's are quick, a friend had one a few years ago, fully stripped out with a few mods and it fair shifted!

I had a Saab estate (not sure which model) coming up behind me quite quick on a stretch of dual carriageway (we were doing about 30 waiting for a truck to move over) so I floored it and I couldn't shake him, I pulled over and he couldn't go past but he was stuck in my wing mirror all the way to 120. I did have 3 passengers but I didn't expect it.

Another GTI pulled out behind me not too long ago and started tailgating. I only had myself in the car and he was packed to the hilt with 4 passengers.

We reached an open straight and I put the boot down in 2nd gear (completely stock engine).

Within 200m he had overtaken me with ease! His car must have been tuned to within an inch of it's life!

Isn't the B5 a reworked M5?

Not a Golf but I had my Focus's ars@ handed over by sapphire cosworth a few months ago, I have my suspicions that he was lightly modded :happy2: he didn't overtake me but I couldn't pull away from him

Not completely beaten but i has a rangerover evoque pull of the lights quicker than i was expecting, so i nailed it, and upto just over 60 he stayed next to me. Went straight home and googled it, top spec engine one has a 0-60 of 7ish seconds. after 60 my golf was off. still a standard gti though.

Yeah 4WD gave him a decent launch but after that the aerodynamics of a shed probably didn't help much

I kept with a Nissan GTR (early model) leaving a 50mph section, the clouds of black smoke told me he was trying

With just a map and exhaust they're insane, my friend had one for 6 months and beat a V8 R8 in it, they have crazy torque.

I'm saving for one as my next car, I drive a stage 2+ hybrid edition and I would be well peeved to say the least if my eddy is quicker.
