Seen this before with non-OE filters...we gotta keep an eye on those Techs. ←This is why I do all my own maintenance. No one cares about my MK5 more than I do so why let one of them touch it? Right?  :drinking:

Me too, this service was done b4 I bought it..
Genuine filters only 7 quid or so. Obviously not worth scrimping for the sake of a few quid

Apparently these little 2.0's can really suck when dehydrated and thirsty...and agree with sticking with mostly OE bits  :drinking:

I've used Cross and filters the past few oil changes and had no issues. Used to use Mann filter before because, as mentioned, they're who supply VW OE products.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Have seen this using genuine filters, on Hondas, renaults, skodas, my own vw and more recently since I moved to Nissan, which are dci so renualt. Quite normal as long as it's not torn. It's paper media. Heat, oil and the twisting when you remove it usually contribute to this. Mann, fram, mahle are oem suppliers amongst others.

Outside of a GSF sale, Euro Car Parts are good if you need parts next day (dont buy in store, always cheaper to clicks and collect) or if there's no rush use carparts4less.co.uk (same people but slightly cheaper). Plus use "saveme75" for an extra 7.5% off (thanks to richtung for that one!).
