I have a 57 (2008) car but its an Axx engine code, is that correct?

Sounds like it's had a 2nd hand engine in it !!

The other give away used to be a sunroof! Theres quite a big batch of imported 2005 GTIs from the Far East which sat around in storage for a couple of years before getting registered on an 07-plate. Got sold of cheaply by the likes of Motorpoint etc but these days they are advertised for the same price as genuine UK 2007 GTIs.

I was very happy with my 55-plate BWA engined GTI. Old enough to make it cheap but new enough to have all the 2006 model year improvements.

Yep..import unit then mate..and AXX is not a surprise there. I viewed one last September 07 reg with AXX engine. I then realize it was an import after checking with VW. Walked away and found another GTI

Just as an FYI, nothing wrong with them being import GTIs...they have a better spec (sunroof etc), only downside is no alarm but that's easily rectifiable.
Certainly nothing that would cause anyone to walk away from one if it's an otherwise good car...  :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: :stupid:

True but I think the issue is paying 07-plate money for what's really an 05-plate which was sat around for a couple of years not doing anything. Also lack of alarm could affect insurance I would have thought.

So import cars only came with electric seat adjusters and uk spec ones didn't ? The only electric thing in my front seats is the part were your back sits, then manual for the tilt and the slider part. Mine sound like a import? Just not sure what you mean by electric adjuster as in does it slide the seat back and forth with the flick of a button etc

UK spec does not have the electric seat adjustment for slider and recliner.
UK spec has the electric lumbar support adjustment.

At least that what I gathered

Yes, but as so often with cars, plenty of vehicles may well be 2005/2006 but actually on 2006/2007/2008 registration.
I have seen 55 Plate Bora (MK4s) before.........

TBH on the old threads you linked it's just people speculating... "high temperatures perishes all the rubbers"... lol

When it comes to buying a car for ~£6k I don't care where it comes from as long as it's tidy and specced as I want
The imported ones all came with a 2 year VW warranty. Still covered by manufacturer recalls. componently it's exactly the same just has an originating stamp in another country.

hoo har over nothing. it's a better specced car for the same (or less) money. i think they all came with leccy sunroof, IMO i prefer the earlier MK5s as they have no roof aerial so a cleaner look (just personal preference!)

alarm can be an issue but as i said, easily rectifiable. mine was never a worry :notworthy:
