Exhaust Back Box
« on: February 11, 2015, 05:36:25 pm »
The other month I noticed that my 3 door '05 MK5 GTI was sounding louder than usual (Nothing was picked up at the recent minor service)
I took it to an exhaust company today and they said it was the "back box" and said that the cheapest place for a genuine part was the VW garage, I've been told it will be around £600

Does that sound right? Maybe there is a cheaper option?

Thanks!

Yes if I was you I would get yourself down for the bcs exhaust group buy then hopefully it'll go ahead and your gti will sound sweet and save myself a few quid  :happy2:

Just had a custom fitted R32 style exhaust system £350 so there's loads out there that's cheaper  :jumping:

I had the same problem last year with my '05. The back box had a hole rusting through it, so I needed a new cat back section. I was quoted a crazy price for new one like you! However I found a mint second hand one with only 1000 miles on it on  Gumtree for £65. You should try scouring second hand sites and you might get lucky  :happy2:
