remap saturday
« on: December 15, 2008, 05:50:31 pm »
right as some of you know the car is going in for a remap and milltek cat back on saturday (non res ). i know on the older GTI'S they had problems with the standard dump valve spliting on them. am i right in saying that the new ones (58 plate) have the revised valves on them so shouldnt split?

thanks

The material the valve is made from makes it prone to tearing though probably less so with the newer version.

Do remember the original valve is made to compliment the lower boost levels of the standard engine and not a remapped one.
Without traction power is nothing!

I have had a revision 'g' valve on my 57 plate GTi, so I'm sure you will have one also on your 58 plate

I have the newest revision of DV, which is G I believe. I've been running Revo stage 1 for 9 months now with no problems whatsoever to report. :happy2:

there you go. Wouldn't have thought vw would change it if it 'copes' with standard powered gti's

....

I know of standard GTI's which have split the plastic diaphram on the DV, so it's not exclusively remapped cars that can have the problem. also, there are remapped cars running fine so far with the VW stock DV.

The fact is that the VW DV is a weak link in the chain and if you are remapped it's a sensible precaution to fit a Forge DV instead, but it's not essential.

Stock DV's on the standard GTI's are allgedly more prone to splitting as the DV is located directly next to the turbo and so suffers from heat soak. The ED30 DV is located remotely at the front of the engine and so is less prone to heat soak and damage. If you fit a Forge DV you must remember that it isn't a fit and forget item. Every year it is advisable to open up the DV and lubricate it so the plunger/cylinder remains free.

....Not too strange, Chris - It's probably because the air is so cool and crisp. :happy2:

Well then it must particularly like 9.5 degrees C then! I take her out most nights for a quick drive (just to get out of the house, so that I stay sane! And to take advantage of the colder air), but tonight it just felt absolutely rapid!
