Boot Gas Strut Replacement?
« on: June 12, 2012, 12:29:17 pm »
Hi Everyone

I have been searching all day in the hope that I would find an answer or some advice on how to replace the Gas Arm Struts? (dont know what theyre called! :D). Theyre the arms that hold the boot open!.

I dont have a problem with replacing the arm itself however the ball joint that the arm is meant to connect to (the one on the car itself not the boot lid) has come out and I cant figure out for the life of me how to get it back in, maybe remove the boot lining?.

Thanks for any help!

The ball joints just screw in.

Search for.    boot pop they are commonly changed for more powerful ones with will open the boot for you.
Standard: Rear parking sensors, Parrot Bluetooth
Retro fitted: MFSW buttons, RCD510, Boot pop, Black Monza II, Xenons, Audi jacking points, open fog light grills.

Thanks for the quick reply!. The ball joint has a nut on the other side which cant be fastened unless I get behind it to tighten it. Any ideas?

Thanks

The car is a TDI Sport not a GTI. Sorry for the confusion, I am aware this is a GTI forum! ;)

Something not right there. The nuts should be captive so you can just screw the ball joint into them. Does the ball joint just push in and out of the hole?

Yes the ball joint will just push in and out of the hole with absolutely no resistance.

Did you find a solution to this problem? My ball joint has come out too! There is nothing to screw it into!
