Golf newbie needs some info
« on: February 15, 2015, 06:03:23 pm »
Hi guys I'm new to Golf scene, so please excuse my ignorance.

I've liked Golf mk5 for a while now and now I'm ready to get one but just need some general info before I start my search for one.

Jus wanted to know what variations are there of the mk5 golf (power/bhp, petrol or diesel).
Ideally I want one thats quite nippy, my other half has a Audi a3 tdi Quattro 170bhp so I wouldn't mind something with similar or a bit more power.

Also a stage 1 remap, how much power do they add and what's the cost?

What are the common problems that these cars have?

What variations come with leather seats, or any other extras?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer me, and apologies once again if these questions been asked before (as I may not be aware of)

If your looking for a GTI then your going to be looking at 200bhp, which I find as being plenty of power at the moment coming from a 140bhp car! if your looking to get more power then a stage 1 remap would probably get you between 240-265 bhp depending on the map.
common faults i think mainly seem to be diverter valves and water pumps..but i suppose you could just consider that as wear and tear.
The GTI's come in either tartan clothed or leather seats ( both made by recaro ), some come heated. Most come with the RCD 300 radio/cd player, however you can find some eqipped with the sat navs, aux port etc.

If your looking to buy one id mainly be looking at something with under 85k on the clocks.. but a golf with 100K miles on the clock is quite common and not the end of the world.

Hope this helps! :happy2:
