I had that exact problem my friend. This was my old car:
335 BHP, 1st gear.. no point using it.. 2nd gear.. span like crazy unless tyres were warm and road was bone dry. 3rd you could put power down but still struggled for traction if not dry.. This is why alot of people say around 250bhp is the max you need in a FWD car because traction is such a problem even with really good tyres. Also note I had a very linear powerband due to a custom R-tech remap. Beside this, was an awesome car and felt scary fast when it did put the power down.
I now have this:
350 BHP, I can plant my foot to the floor in 1st and it just goes, 0 wheel spin.
After owning both, the golf was more fun i think, but the audi just puts power down effortlessly and is so much faster from stand still as a result. If I own a FWD again I wont be going over 300bhp, its just not practical day to day, not fun when you are spinning the wheels on the moterway because you've put your foot down at 70mph.
