That's the issue I had with the eddy, had about the same power as the R but like they say, power is nothing without traction. Some may say 4WD is boring but until you've actually owned one you don't realise how much better the car puts the power down, in wet conditions it's smiles all day long. 4WD is well worth it IMO.

After a ride in Jussa's I was really impressed by the 4WD.

IMHO you need Stage 2+ Or BT to really make the most of it  :drool:

Justin's is a beast, sounds like one too!

Yeah the car really comes alive with 2+  :driver:

Even more so when you have the correct REVO settings dialled in  :star:

So if you're going to chase bph in a fwd mk5 GTI what mods would make the car drivable and what power is acceptable before making it a waste?

How much power is dependent on you and how often you drive it etc..

Some people say 200bhp is enough and there's a couple of 500bhp+ ones. To make the best you want Michelin super sports/ track tyres (as wide as you can fit), anti lift kit, linear map, LSD and there's probably some other bits.

This was the only reason I sold my Edition30 and bought a MK6 'R' and only a stage one tune mind you but no loss in power or grip! :happy2:

I had an ED30 with DSG and it was a great car on road and track. The handling mods to control it were.....

Semi slick R888's - at sensible speeds in the wet it had better grip than with normal summer tyres, in the dry they were superb.
Quaife ATB LSD - best mod you can do with a FWD.
Bilsteins B16PSS10's - adjustable and makes the car even more tractable.
Whiteline anti-lift kit - helps stop axle tramp....SUperpro version is better IMO.
ARB's - I had Autotech ARB's which really controlled the roll into corners and gave better traction out.
Fast road Geometry - an absolute must. No point in trying to drive a car without correct geometry.
Having said all this I now have a slightly modified Golf R MK6 and it still blows my mind how much better it handles the power than a FWD car. They do need more power to bring the AWD to life though.  :happy2:

Interesting thread, I've fitted a BWJ 240bhp Cupra engine to my Mk1 Golf Gti but its not running yet.

I have fitted a QPENG kit to get it running in the Mk1, it comes with a performance pack with knobs to adjust the throttle pedal response and engine power so I'm hoping that will help with the grip, I'm also using a diesel box with longer ratios and a Peloquin LSD.

I've fitted a Loba HPFP, 3 inch downpipe and a modified Neuspeed intake, hoping for about 330-340 bhp when running.

I'm sure plenty will say that's too much power in the Mk1 but I have had a 181bhp ABF on throttle bodies in it before the TFSI and found it disappointing tbh.

VW does a reasonable job of matching a sensible power output to a stock car (perhaps they could push a bit more), unfortunately this makes the power delivery more boring as the boost levels are a bit tame.

Haldex > FWD for bigger power outputs.
