New headunit and canbus
« on: February 17, 2015, 11:15:52 pm »
Hi, I pick up my first mk5 gti next Wednesday, it's an 07 plate and come with bottom of the line oem headunit. I decided to order a new one and went with the ans-810.
I've had a bit of a read up on here and also on the sellers site regarding the possibility of battery drain with certain types of canbus. I've just got a few questions...

How do I go about identifying what type/version canbus I have?

Am I right in thinking if I have to upgrade the canbus it then needs to be coded to the vehicle?

If I have the right canbus already is the headunit just plug and play or does that need to be coded to the vehicle in any way?

Sorry if these are all newb questions, I did have a search but guessing as these are all really basic things, I didn't come up with much. Thanks for any help in advance.

Cheers,

Scott.

You can check it with vcds. The part number must be L or higher.
If you decide to upgrade canbus it need to be coded to your vehicle spec. I can supply you one precoded if you want.
RNS/RCD are straight swap than. Somethimes some codding need to be changed i.e. if the radio has been fitted to the car with Dynaudio Sound system than you have to change this option on the radio.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply Olsen, I just need to find someone near me to do a scan then (Corby, Northants). If I have the older canbus I'll pm you, out of interest, what would the price be on a precoded unit?

Thanks,

Scott.
