Has anyone had a Health Check done at VW?
« on: February 17, 2015, 03:52:53 pm »
I bought mine in yesterday to get them to look at a bubbling wing under warranty and when I picked it up the guy said they did a free health check on it.

Got an email today with a link to a video of a technician going over my car! Thought it was a pretty cool idea!

pretty cool! I had a health check for free when they did my DSG service, but sat me down and presented a report and talked me through what needed changing with the prices.

:signLOL: £800, "jog on" or words to that effect were used!

I guess I should get the CV boot and binding brake looked at asap though?

Yeah, mine gets a free health check every time it goes to the main dealer, which is about once a year, when it goes for a service.
Last time they found a split CV boot and suggested that the rear disc would need replacing soon.
Didn't get a video though.Neat idea. :happy2:

Had the exact same done for mine, I think it's a really good idea because you have proof and not just someone's word when they say "oh yeah you need new breaks". Again same as you my cv boot was split and they quoted €200 for one side. I went next door to the parts dept and picked up a new boot and grease for €20 and fit it in a few hours myself! Chancers

That's a good idea. I'm sure it'll soon catch on to normal garages soon

Unscrupulous types might slice open a CV boot off camera...  :surprised:

Neat idea I think.

With experiences Iv had with garages, I only trust myself with my car when it comes to maintenance.

Yes - I had one of these emailed to me when my car went to VW late last year for LPFP issues. Wouldn't normally go near the dealer network, but had no choice.

Despite my car having had a service in the past month, they quoted about £800 of 'urgent' work was needed. The usual brakes and pads were mentioned (I know - they are running lowish, but was told by APS they'd last until my next service at my usual mileage). Plus brake fluid, cambelt (both of which are reasonable as the car is off the dealer network, so they don't know they have been done since the last VW log), two front tyres (they are lowish - 3mm, but acceptable for now...), but the one that got me was front & rear wipers (for about £70).
The justification was that they were 'smearing' - utter BS - rear wiper was changed before winter and fronts were absolutely fine.

I think it's a valiant attempt at restoring some faith in main dealer servicing, but the same ethos seems to remain - selling the services. Of course, I get that the servicing has to pay for the shiny showroom...
