Alex's Laser Blue, not so GTI MK5
« on: February 23, 2015, 09:05:21 pm »
Hello People!!

Im new to this so sorry if ive not done something right haha.

So im 22 and from berkshire, a few months ago i got myself a blue MK5 1.6 FSI (slow i know but its my first car)
Since having the car ive been looking on here for ideas of what to do... ultimate goal is to get a gti

I dont really have any plans for performance as its just a 1.6 but im planning on having the car for a few years so i soon started to change its looks.

So far ive tinted the windows, changed the wheels to Team Dynamics imolas i think?.. not sure off the top of my head, lowerd it on elbach pro kit springs, changed the air filter to a BMC panel filter as it needed changing anyway, GTI exhaust and GTI rear valance, and finally debaged the boot.

The other week someone decided to key my passenger door and unfortunatly it has gone down to the bare metal! :( so im having the door resprayed and thought i mayaswell turn it into a positive and get the car colour coded while im at it, so thats to come in the next few weeks.

Other than that i have some simple plans such as changing the number plate lights to bright LED's and some wind deflectors as i hate getting the rain in my face! GTI headlights, and a GTI steering wheel as i think mine look spretty pants.

Think thats pretty much everything, so hello and please bare with me as im a noob at this.

some pics of the car:

How she was when i got it other than the window tints..

as she is now, still alot of work to be done minor scuffs etc and so on..

Here is the scratch :(

Any help or suggestions id be happy to here :)

Hello mate.
welcome along.. lovely colour.
Local to you as I live in Newbury
I also have VCDS if you need any help with anything there.
Mods wise I would buy some GTI Skirts and fit those along with a Cupra splitter or a GT/GTI bumper and have everything colour coded... the difference is night and day.. doesn't seem like it would make such an improvement but it does, all fairly cheap as well. Under £750 for the lot bought and painted.

Shame about the door.
Normally a respray is about the only job to remove it as it looks very deep.
I work at detail my car, looking at it the car could do with a decent polish anyway as it's very swirled from your photo (it's ok mine is too haha!)  while it would not disappear we could probably do something with the key mark in the form of a touch up with some wet sanding combined with the overall improvement from a decent enhancement would look a lot better than it did before. nick the owner may also have an opinion on it as he's a done more of these kind of repairs than me.

Feel free to pop down one evening so I can have a look in person,

Cheers, yeah i agree it does need a good couple of hours polishing, only reason i havent lately is cause the crap weather :) skirts are on my list of things to do along with a rear wing add on so its more like the GTi spoiler. anther thing is i want to go lower although its lowerd on the pro kit i think it still needs another 20mm or so.

Nice to see someone local

So finally got a chance to clean it today and give it a quick polish, first real polish its had since ive had it!

Got some bits done... had the door resprayed to get rid of the key sratch and colour coded the rear bumper... rear bumper needs a touch up on the corner but will be done for free.

And i also have orderd this ED30 replica lip for my shape front end so im waiting for that too come. Then get that fitted and have its sprayed along with the rub strips so its all colour coded get the corner touched up as mentioned above at the same time.

This is the lip i have orderd (sorry for the bad quality its the only way i could upload it was to take a picture of it from the screen haha)

Really cant wait for the front lip so it looks abit nicer than this  :happy2:

Thats about it :)

I don't have any photos of the car when I got it other than the one on the first page with the bricks next to it... :(. As for the rear valance it was easy, just u do some screws(2 on each wheel arch I think and then 4 across the back) then pull from one side and its held in with clips. Only problem is putting the new valance on as the clips are extremely hard to puch in.. Took me about am hour to do the whole thing.

Sweet man thanks for that. Did you change whole exhaust system or just the back box?

I got hold of a full system but i only changed the back box and then sold the rest of it... suprisingly makes a massive difference in sound to the 1.6 FSI  i didnt expect it to as its just the back box but it really does sound totally different.

Maybe there is just less baffles in the GTI back box.

Just so you are aware it is meant for the pre face lift front end... ive only quickly placed it under the car atm as im working but looks like its a good fit... all the holes etc look to be in the correct place and looks like it should fit well. I HOPE.
