New here but been on the scene a while..
« on: April 29, 2014, 02:13:23 pm »
So just joined and seems a great forum and I'm sure it will impart some good advice for me with my new runaround. A little background on me , I've been on the VAG scene now for over 20 years and have owned over 25 VAG cars , from the MK1 GTI all the way through to RS4 B7 and a TTRS.

I specialize in the sale of performance VAG cars and am based near Norwich. My company is called Norfolk performance car sales.

And after many years of TT ownership I find myself without one for now after selling my TTRS to fund the house extension and then also re-buying my old MK1 V6 and then subsequently being made a silly offer for it sold that too..

Well this MK5 2.0T GTI 3 door came in part exchange needing a little TLC so decided to keep it and get it back into a nice condition with some choice but also frugal mods. It's always been a car I love with a superb balance , steering and a fruity engine too. Alas when I got it the car had two broken coil springs and totally worn out dampers and tyres and the wheels were in a terrible state too.

So I have had the wheels diamond cut and now wearing Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 tyres , suspension wise I didn't want a hard ride for my daily so plumped for Bilstein B4 Sport dampers and Eibach -25mm Sportsline Springs which has made the car a little stiffer but not by much and also looks a lot better too. The car now handles incredibly well with a lovely natural feel to it , so you can make a car handle without making it super stiff !! Next up was a custom remap from Wak of Wak-TT.com and now my GTI feels like a different car showing live readings of 266 BHP and 312 LBFT and on MRC Tunings rollers on Saturday it showed a similar 257 BHP and an even stronger 319 LBFT ! And the car feels super torquey and in 4th , 5th and 6th the car really pulls with shocking vigour for a 2.0T. Well chuffed with the results so thanks to Wak.   :happy2: But as pre-warned by Wak the DV needs replacing so about to get the Revision D version. RR graph below :

And alongside my family car a MK7 Golf GT TDI 150 and my track prepped MK3 Golf 2.8 VR6 all I own is Golf's .

My VR6...

Wheels look amazing. Out of interest how much did you pay to get them refurbed if you don't mind me asking? I decided against getting them diamond cut again, just because of the cost. Got them done in anthracite, but yours make me want to get them back to original.

They cost me £360 + VAT but that's trade , but yeah they look fantastic and really make a Mk5 I think. I have just taken in a 5dr 57 plate GTI with painted Monzas so they will be going for a diamond cut this week too.

Hi Neil,
Been trying to find details of your gti for a while now .. Firstly wanted to say what a fab job you've done of bringing your Gti back to its former glory. I have an identical car and am currently looking to lower the car and saw your post talking about your suspension change. Just to make sure that I get the correct drop as yours Neil I found these Eibach Sportline Springs in euro performance website.... Could you clarify If I have found the same springs as you fitted please as would be a massive help.

Volkswagen Golf V (1K1) GT 1.4TSI DSG, GTI 2.0 TFSI, GTI 2.0 TFSI Edition 30, GTI 2.0 TFSI DSG, GTI 2.0 TFSI DSG Edition 30, GT 2.0 TDI, GT 2.0 TDI DSG From Years: 10.04 -

Eibach Sportline Springs to fit

Do you have a photo of your original set up as it looks like mine is a 4x4 at the moment and think the rear needs to come lower than 20mm.
Any help would be a step in the right direction.
Also what do you think about the bilstein b4 dampers for daily use?
Cheers
