Is an s3 intercooler good enough to run stage2+?
« on: February 26, 2015, 09:53:05 pm »
Sourcing parts for stage 2+ on my Pirelli and am wondering weather the s3 intercooler is an effective upgrade to support stage 2+

Cheers

Meant to be good for 400 ponies but S3 owners have upgraded to bigger set ups, however for the price its a good upgrade.

Alloy ended is the one to go for too  :happy2:

Plenty of stage 2+ ed30s making good power with S3 intercooler. One today made 357bhp (rtech)

unless you are chasing numbers the S3 is fine

And just to clarify we are talking about the S3 intercooler with alloy end tanks not plastic.  :happy2:

What i think some of you are forgetting is the purpose of the intercooler... i.e. to keep things cool. A decent setup will (and has made)360hp on the OE intercooler....... For one run! After that it will be far too hot and will pull back timing etc as a result. It's not just about the numbers you make but how repeatable they are.

I think normal road use the are fine.
I have one on my Edition at 2+ @ 360 ish,I did notice some loss of power on track as the day went on at an open pit lane but thats giving it welly reaching 140/150 on one straight also I won best in my class @ Inters on the Sunday doing the quarter mile so not too shabby,it was a very hot day and you are sitting waiting in the queue  for half an hour before getting your turn.

Yeah I don't really track cars at the moment so all I'm after is a reliable intercooler that does its job! I'd rather hold back slightly on number to alround have a better driving car.

Are there different part numbers or alloy and plastic end s3 intercoolers?

Well yes you do need to say more as its not about power its about keeping it there for a length of time

So basically cause I don't track a s3 cooler is effective enough for a stage 2+ to hold temps down on road...
