Folding Mirrors swap
« on: March 01, 2015, 02:37:17 pm »
Got my dad selling his 2008 Golf Gt equipped with folding mirrors.
I want to transfer them to my 2004 Golf GTI.
Apart from the obvious parts, switch and wing mirrors, what else do I need to complete the swap?
Will the motors for the mirrors actually be inside the mirror unit, or will they be in the door?
Been told both cars will need vagcom coding?

You'll need the controllers out both doors too but check that 2008 door controllers will work in a 2004 car before you go ripping both cars apart as the wiring was changed at some point. I don't remember coding mine when I changed them

As above,  your early controllers are incompatible with a newer car without wiring changes,  it can be done yes, but is a pita.
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

Thanks for the info.
Will the controllers be behind the door cards? As with all the wiring?
