Factory phone kit
« on: March 07, 2015, 06:59:10 pm »
Hi chaps I have just bought a 2006 gti with MFD satnav mfsw and a factory phone kit. I have read on old forums that you can get a Bluetooth adapter for the cradle (Nokia of some description) so I can use my current phone, is this still the case? If not, I will probably install a parrot handsfree kit. Can the factory phone be removed?

Hi,

Is it a cradle similar to this (attached to the top of the glove box)?

In that case you will probably need the universal bluetooth pairing adapter (7L0 051 435 PA) and support mounting bracket (1K0 035 707 B). I have both of these for sale if you are interested.

I don't think the cradle can be removed from the glove box without leaving a hole. Then you would need to replace the glove box with one that didn't have a factory installed cradle.

Thanks for the reply. That is exactly the cradle I have in my gti. Does the support mounting bracket replace the existing cradle? Also will the Bluetooth adapter allow me to stream music? Could you let me know the costing please.
My other option may be to upgrade the whole head unit to an rns510 with have you (or anyone else) done this? I would like to think it would just be a direct swap but I doubt it would be that easy.....

The mounting bracket replaces the top part of the cradle so the end result looks similar to the below. The bluetooth adapter just clips onto the bracket.

The adapter works very well, but it is rather basic; no a2dp (music streaming) capabilities. Send me an offer on PM and I'm sure we'll work something out.

Yes, I have done this upgrade. In addition to the RNS 510 itself you might need to do the following;
- Replace CAN gateway to prevent battery drain
- Bypass aerial selection control unit
- Changing pin assignments for cd changer and auxiliary input
- Code the head unit

This is what I have, it looks the same.  The more I think about it the more likely I am to go down the replacement head unit. Thanks so much for your help and advice.

That's the best choice. Just a little expensive ;p

If you change your mind or just want to have bluetooth capabilities until you can get the upgrade done I'll let you have the adapter and bracket for £35.

Good luck! :)

Oh well. That is a shame. I will have to try and get one elsewhere.  Thanks anyway.

Hi,  Apologies I have just read back my last post and realised it sounds very disingenuous. I do aprreciate your help on this. I am just a bit annoyed with this Damn app!
