In Desperate Need of Help
« on: March 08, 2015, 05:58:40 pm »
Is there anybody close to the Bradford area who has VCDS?

I have an EPC and engine warning light on, the car also won't rev past 3k and has almost no power at all.

It's a 2005 GTI.  I have been trying to put a different radio in the car today but it wouldn't turn on.
I decided to check the fuse box in the engine bay to see if any of the fuses had blown. I pulled them out 1 by 1 to check them, but none of them had blown.

Would pulling out the fuses cause the warning lights to come on and the engine lose power? I think it's gone into something called limp mode?

Somebody please help, I've only had the car 1 week and it has been running fine right up until I messed with the fuse box.
I'm now terrified I've got a big repair bill.

Thank you

Did you disconnect the battery? If so, the faults should clear once you've driven it for a few mins.

@reaper7881 is only in Huddersfield and might be able to help you

No I didn't disconnect the battery. I've driven it to the train station this morning and the warning lights are still on and it's still in limp mode.

Do you think it's worthwhile disconnecting the battery this evening and reconnecting to see if the waning lights clear?
Would this also take the car out of limp mode?

I will send reaper7881 a PM.

Thanks

It might be worth a try? I can't imagine you've done any damage if you've only tried to install a stereo but maybe someone else with more knowledge can help

Where about in Bradford are you btw?

I'm in the BD2 area, Ashbourne/Kings Road.

I'm convinced I've either blown a fuse I've not spotted. Or I've caused the warning lights and limp more by pulling out the fuses in the engine bay to check.

It can't be a coincidence that the warning lights came on as soon as I started the car after messing around with the fuses!

I'm hoping it's something that simple anyway?!

I'm just dreading it not been something simple, didn't sleep a wink last night because of worrying! Ha ha.

Sad to see the Corrado go, it was only the 8v but it was a good, reliable little car.

Re: In Desperate Need of Help. ALL SORTED NOW
« Reply #10 on: March 11, 2015, 05:29:42 pm »
All sorted and back to running how it should.
Turned out to be what I thought and hoped it was.

Messing around with the fuses in the engine bay and I didn't put them back in the right place.
Fuse 13 was missing, this is for the Engine Control Module and Fuse 23 missing, this is for the N75 Valve, the N80 Valve and the DV.
There was a very worrying moment when the codes were read and it came back with just about every possible engine error!
Replaced the fuses and everything is now back to normal.
This will teach me to be messing around with electrics in the dark!!

Want to say a massive thank you to MAT ED30 who came over to mine with his VCDS, he went out of his way to help me.  Top, top bloke.
