Would hill hold not need an electric hand brake instead of a hydrolic?

Its just a way of life.

No. Our Caddy works van has hill hold but still a conventional hand brake. Think it is down to the newer ABS units.

Ahgood to know all the ones ive come across are electric,  seems like it will be a long old job to get it functioning

Its just a way of life.

Yeah as mentioned, the system would need a 'mk6' generation ABS unit and the associated gradient/inclination sensors.

As above hill hold is Mk6 only

Not sure on high beam assist but its likely to be a similar story, only the late Mk6s have the right stalk for it so Mk5 probably won't.

What sensors we talking about mate. Do all mk6 golfs have this hill hold function?

Marv I thought I showed you this stuff on my car when you came over last?

RE Hill hold - need a later MK6 ABS pump. Early MK6s dont have hill hold assist.

RE Highbeam assist - Need upgraded canbus and potentially new Central electrics, Modify indicator stalk and obviously highbeam assist mirror and wiring.

I think you did mate

So for hill hold we need a mk6 abs pump and a bit of vag com to enable?

Is it only the rocco that has the required mirror or does a mk6 golf have it too?

When you say modify indicator stalk what exactly you mean.....

Yep late MK6 ABS but need bit more than VAGCOM for coding.. @Eddie-NL  can chime in on the long coding details

Can get golf HBA mirror but one wasnt available at the time for me so i got Rocco one.

RE switch - the indicator stalk needs to spring back when you push it (momentary highbeam) and on MK5 it stays back which wont work for HBA.. read this:

The reason I mentioned the sensors is because my mk6 only held the brakes on reasonable inclines. Very minor inclines did not prompt the system to activate.. so there must be some sort of level sensor involved

The abs unit has all the sensors built in they are not external,  I have changed my mk60 mk5 abs to the mk60ec1 my6 unit and hill hold works perfectly

In VCDS you can adjust how much assist you want. Higher the assist the the more likely to hold on lesser inclines and for longer.
