Tyres for Edition 30 question

2 days ago I had 2 new tyres fitted on the front while it was in for a service.  I use Pilot Sport 3 255 40 R18 ZR 92Y.  This is the tyres I asked for, they quoted me for and I thought was fitted.  Anyway I just noticed that they have fitted Pilot Sport 3 255 40 R18 ZR 92W.  So they fitted 92W instead of 92Y.  Anyway I now have 2 Y's on the back and 2 x W's on the front.

Do you think I should take it back and ask for them to be swapped? What is the difference between the 2?  Oddly if I look on Michelin's website I do not see ZR 92W's, only ZR 92Y's...

Its just a different speed rating for the tyres.

w= 168mph
y=186mph

If they have charged you for Y tyres I'd say something, but if not I wouldn't bother, unless you plan on doing over 168mph!

Are you sure non of them are XL rated? it would be on the sidewall somewhere.
If not then as above ^.

I would take it back and get them changed - the Y rating is the manufacturers specified rating. You having tyres fitted with the incorrect speed rating could void your car insurance in the event of an accident - we all know the insurance companies will look for any excuse to avoid a payout.

Does the Ed30 specify Y inside the fuel flap?
its quite hard to find what the exact manufactures spec is, ie most people would say W 168mph is ok....

I too am running michelin ps3's and 2 rears ar 92w and fronts are 92y both are XL too
Mine were supplied and fitted by my local reputable tyre depot and when I questioned it I was told 92w is absolutely fine

Got a receipt from them with the tyres and car registration etc that they supplied and fitted them to so any insurance issues ever arise il be suing the tyre depot  :happy2:

Honestly can't see it ever making a difference and insurance wouldn't bother either otherwise anyone who is running winter tyres had better look out as they are usually rated at H which is about 130mph

That's why I wondered if Y was actually vw spec.
I only get Y as they are cheaper then W :stupid:
