Newbie looking for advice
« on: March 19, 2015, 09:58:13 pm »
Hi all. Firstly I apologise if everything I saw has already been posted, I've had a quick search but don't have all the time at the moment to do a thorough search.

I know it's cheeky and lazy but I'm here to ask advice on buying a gti, specifically what to look out for and how to check said issues

So the car is a 05 plate automatic DSG with 84000 miles.

It has had one owner, and been serviced at a VW dealer since it was bought with a full service history. The last service was November with no recommended issues.

My main worry is that is not had its cam belt changed :o

I have told him that if he lowers the price by the cost of having the change, I will come get it and providing that I'm happy with the rest of the car, will buy it. I will then get it changed immediately.

What do you guys think?

I think that vw recommends that it is inspected at 60k and changed at 120k?

What do other issues should I look for, and HOW do I look for them?

Thanks in advance, much appreciated.

Timing belt is officially due at 60k miles or 4 years, whichever is sooner. Some people push them for another year, but I wouldn't leave it any longer personally!
