Ok will do. Why do you recommend the gasket as well as the pcv?

My plan is to buy all the parts, then potentially replace the pvc(and possibly the gasket )and the cam follower myself (if it's not too challenging) , and then take it to a mechanic to fit the DV

The gasket is just a rubber seal, it will perish over time. If you're ever replacing any part on a car then you always replace the associated gasket along with it, just good practice.

Hm, I don't have axle stands...It is very tempting though. You recommend REV G? I see you had some problems with yours after installing it?

Axle stands are the cheapest things you can buy. Although I wouldn't like to admit it, before I got a set I used 4 bales of fire briquettes on the last car when I was doing the CV and they held strong. I do not recommend this! Get axle stands from the likes of micksgarage or a UK equivalent for around £15 because you're going to need them in the future.

I've used rev G and rev D. End of the day either will do the job. It's argued that rev G gives a better seal and therefore better performance but it would be miniscule and nothing worth noting.

G is also cheaper than D.

Get a G and check back on it in a year and look for splits.

I would also check that your current one is not split before you go changing it.

To be fair, I don't think I can hear a whistle and it seems powerful. With the scanner that I've ordered, will I be able to see if there is a loss of power?

a non vagcom will only show "errors" not "warnings" so it will check for major faults and prob won't read the VW under boost soft errors... :(

Putting it this way, I bought my GTI coming from a polo and never realised my dv was split because it was a powerful car.

Chances are if you have no proof of it being changed it is split.

Take it off anyway and check it. Do it early in the morning so you can leave the car jacked up and pick up a part from VW parts in a different car if it does need changing.
