DV, PVC and CAM Follower
« on: March 25, 2015, 03:53:19 pm »
I have a DSG 05 GTI at 95sh k

I cant find in the service history about a DV, PVC or CAM follower being changed

Going to buy them all myself and get them fitted by a pro  (no tools or knowledge!!)

I found a thread identifying parts, just wanted to make sure for my year I'm ordering the right ones!

DV Revision G - Part number  06F 145 710 G

PCV Revision R - Part number  06F 129 101 R

Cam-Follower - Part Number 06D 109 309 C

Sorry for the noob questions

Also.... :ashamed: what does GTI FSI stand for  :ashamed:

GTI
Grand Touring Injection

FSI
Fuel Stratified Injection

TFSI
Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection (at a guess)

Sorry don't know the part numbers.....
There is no replacement for displacement....
But a turbo does help....

Standard gti is ko3 edition 30 and Pirelli are ko4.

Cam follower and PCV valve are a piece of piss to change, if I can do it anyone can.
There's a guide on here for cam follower change.

Thanks andy, I'll have a look for the guide on the PCV and cam follower. I have no tools, or knowledge on GTI's let alone engines. Would you recommend doing it myself?

If u have a day free and local backup (i.e. a mechanic friend) then why not. It's kinda just following logic, but have a smart phone with a guide for reference.
We all started some where, no tools would be kinda hard to start with.

I thought newer GTI's i.e. 2009 standard could be K04 too?

Nope, all Mk5 GTI's, AXX and BWA etc come with k03s.
Mk6 GTI (TSI ea888 engines)  I believe don't have k03, they use an IHI unit which is a different designation.

By no tools, I mean no car specific tools. I don't have ramps or anything either. I have all standard tools. I know its probably nothing in comparison, but I'm a good mountain bike mechanic  :happy2:

if you can fix a bike, you can fix a car, and if you can fix a car, you can fix a nuclear-grade submarine.

Get stuck in. With the money you save by DIYING it you will end up with a good selection of tools and may even enjoy it. I didn't have any tools/experience when i bought my car a year ago. I've learnt a lot i enjoy working on the car nearly as much as driving it.

I'd definitely enjoy it. I do all the maintenance and work on my mountain bikes - partly to save money, and also because...it's fun  Ok I'll definitely look into doing it myself then, thanks guys.

Thanks andy, I'll have a look for the guide on the PCV and cam follower. I have no tools, or knowledge on GTI's let alone engines. Would you recommend doing it myself?

Honestly mate it's easy doable, just follow the guide make sure you've got everything you need.
The cam follower is a little daunting when you're soaking up the excess fuel but like I said follow the guide and you'll be fine.

The Pcv just screws off, the second from the right screw at the bottom is a bit fiddly so I'd recommend having a magnetic pick up tool i case you drop it or put a rag there to catch it. (Speaking from experience, took me 20 mins to find th fiddly barstewards lol)

There's a guide somewhere for removing the engine cover, it's easy like but it's worth reading to make sure you undo everything that needs to be.
