But yeah, the above reply is spot on, it is dependent on the actual miles to empty driving style at the point of filling and it uses the reference of average MPG for that single journey. The higher 36mpg would granny driving continual and the overall MPG figure. Although on both of my mk5's I've never been able to sustain that when combined driving, only ever on motorway.
