DSG Service
« on: March 30, 2015, 09:28:57 am »
Just a bit confused... It doesn't say DSG Oil service, so is IT actually the DSG service or just the normal engine oil changed?

The last three services in my history

Just the normal Oil changes have been done not the DSG service (unless you have a specific invoice showing it's been done). I'd get your brake fluid service sorted as that doesn't appear to have been done either.

That's worrying, as I don't have a specific invoice showing it!! its nearly 100k! Better get it booked in!

I'd be more concerned about your brakes if you're nearly at 100K. The DSG box has done well if it's gone that long without a service. Most of my gearbox and it's contents started failing at 70K despite having two services within it's history. Luck of the draw really.

Brake fluid service was done at 30,000

Strange that the service history checklist doesn't have a check for DSG oil service...

Brake Fluid should be changed every two years.

The later service books (think it was 06/07 onwards) have a checklist for the DSG service.

You'll easily get them both done in a day, shouldn't take more than a couple of hours. You'll probably find they're both a fixed price service anyway.

Cheers redemption. Hopefully get it booked in for Saturday then.

On an unrelated note, I'm going to buy some Castrol edge 5w40 oil for the engine shortly (not DSG obviously) I don't need to drain it before I top it up do I? Because the guy before may of and probably did use a different oil

Not sure if I'd want to potentially mix oils. I'd be inclined to get an oil change service done at the same time as the DSG etc.

Ok well the oil isn't far off max so I won't bother getting an oil service or filling up until one is due.

Apparently the nearest VW dealer can't do it until Saturday the 18th! (I can only really pick up and drop off on a Saturday) Should I wait for this or should I book in at another garage to see if I can get it done this Saturday.

The thing is, it may well have been done, and the guy not given me the invoices. I asked about it when I bought the car, and the guy said he'd only bought it about 3-4 months ago off a good friend of his - who owned it for about 6 years. He said his friend had done it every year - which makes me think he thought I was just talking about the regular oil service.

Are there any Independent VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat Garages or Specialists near to you? Any of them will be able to do the work needed.

Well, I've spoke to them and they do do the DSG servicing, they have stock and they can do it next Tuesday  Little bit cheaper than the main VW dealer as well - not much, but a little
