Chemical Guys stuff is good

If you have already detailed your car using all 3 polishing stages, I personally would only do the refining stages to refinish. Remember, unless you are measuring the paint depth with a PDG you maybe removing too much clearcoat, and you don't want that!
It sounds like you have a good regime anyway, so is unlikely you will need to fully correct the paint again :happy2:

Thanks J400uk, that's the aim :happy2:

*update*

I managed complete a few more jobs on the GTI

First up, I gave the interior a good going over. This is the first interior clean since buying the car, so it had all previous owners dirt and crap in it

The process: Thorough vacuum, APC'd the plastics, shampoo'd all seats, carpets and headlining with Chemical Guys Fabric Clean. Then plastics were dressed with Gtechniq Matt Dash.

GTI-Rog Replace Radio Head Unit, Cam Follower and install Carbonio CAI
« Reply #48 on: May 01, 2015, 05:07:10 pm »
The RCD head unit in my car has a damaged LCD screen, so I have bought an updated version to replace it with. It was great value from a fellow forum member, so thankyou :happy2:

I will be adding a centre armrest and Ipod dock soon, this is perfect for my needs and looks nicer with the silver buttons.

Didnt realise you can just pop the fascia off. Thought you had to start from the top of the dash working your way down.

In fairness, it's the first time removing the fascia, so I was guessing a little! I just lifted the top half up a bit and unscrewed the front panel and pulled it off, worked well. The previous owners weren't so careful as they had scratched and marked the panels :fighting:

Thanks dazza, I've had a bit of practice on previous tfsi based cars, which helps with some of the jobs. I must say, I am enjoying modding and changing parts on the car. It's all adding up to a nicer car to own and drive :driver:

Looking great bud, I love these sort of threads, not just chucking a map, intake and exhaust on but going through the car and getting all back up to standard, looks a lot better on the 18' Monza's :happy2:

Did you oil the follower yourself? I'm fitting mine soon, and thought you didn't need to because they're already oiled?

GTI-Rog Replace damaged DV to Revision G DV
« Reply #57 on: May 18, 2015, 04:34:39 pm »
Next update*

Replace the Diverter Valve. This is located on the turbo and controls the amount of boost for the engine. The rubber diaphragm tends to go on these and my car has been feeling sluggish and down on power. I was also getting a hissing sound in the cockpit.

This is the brand new DV, I have gone for the G revision, after reading the reviews on here, if it's not good I'm gonna blame you lot
DSCN2357 by Roger Freeman, on Flickr

The easiest access is through the wheel arch, so off with the alloy. Unclip the connector and undo 3 5M allen key bolts and...
DSCN2359 by Roger Freeman, on Flickr

Voila...one very split and sorry for itself DV!! This top part just fell out, it had obviously had enough!
DSCN2360 by Roger Freeman, on Flickr

As you can see very split! I'm surprised it held any boost at all!
DSCN2362 by Roger Freeman, on Flickr

This has been on the car from new, nearly 10 years, I'm not surprised it's knackered!
DSCN2363 by Roger Freeman, on Flickr

New shiny upgraded rubber diaphragm, ready to go in.
DSCN2364 by Roger Freeman, on Flickr

After fitting, I went for a test drive and what a difference!! All the ponies have returned to the stable. It pulls strong all the way to the redline and is so,so much quicker, feels like a different car now!  :driver:

Great work Roger. I plan on installing the revision G also. Cannot believe how bad your original valve was! Im impressed with the turn around on the seats also, think I will be ordering some of the Chemical Guys fabric cleaner. Keep up the good work!

Cheers Jay :happy2:

I have installed the rev D, on previous cars, which had been fine. But after doing some research the Rev G is supposed to be better, we'll see

The old DV was bad wasn't it! How the previous owners didn't notice is beyond me! :stupid:

I was quite happy to find it that knackered, as it meant there was more power to be had from the engine

CG Fabric Clean is great stuff too, it can be diluted 10:1 and will last you ages. I had my last bottle for 3 years+ :happy2:
