To bluefin?, or not to bluefin?, what was the question!?!
« on: November 30, 2009, 09:48:45 pm »
So I've had the car a couple of weeks now, and sorted a few minor gremlins out.... Monza II's are in for the diamond cut refurb next week (fantastic local bloke) So I guess it's time to think about some performance mods!!!

Been to a company in Poole called Kar Technic for a quote:

Re-map (in house i guess)
Milltek Cat-Back
Forge Boost Valve
Pipercross Filter

All the above for just under £1k.

Then started to look round the web and BLUEFIN caught my attention, think I kinda like the idea of being in control of the mapping via the handset, and can reset if I ever had the need without going into the garage.

So my question is - what do you guys think, as a set of mods?

Kar Technic are local for me so any snags and I can go round there to sort it out (and they did seem a helpful bunch).
Or is it worth the travel for something better?
Bluefin?... Anygood or a gimmick?
Pipercross filter... should I? - or do I go straight for an Induction kit?

For info i'm into subtle mods (OEM with a kick) - so no big bore booming exhaust. and don't think i'm interested in stage 2 etc, even at a later date (famous last words) But I do want some bang for my buck!!!

All advice / opinions gratefully recieved as to what to spend my money on.

I know this kind of topic has been discussed loads on the forum so apologies for the repetition, and for the amount of questions I've posed with this post.... :notworthy:

Bluefin + Miltek TB Exhaust and a decent air filter saw me hit 300+ horses!

I'm now running a few more mods and have always been very impressed with my Bluefin!  :happy2:

Yes this is a Bluefin friendly site with a fair few users.

I have no affiliation but JKM in Portsmouth are currently doing them for £390 with £30 worth of vouchers which will buy you a panel filter.

They are also doing free postage on anything else you may desire.

dont go bluefin with a GTI mate. its pants. the ed 30 has good results with bluefin. i now have seen 5 cars all with same issues(including my own using bluefin) issues were when going past stage 1 though. i  thought the stage 1 was ok.

Nice one Hedge, I only asked as I worked around the airshow circuit for a few years... Great Cause (if you can call it that). Nuff said  :happy2:

From personal experience I would actually recommend Revo on the K03 cars. However when you weigh up price versus gains the Bluefin will still make a strong case for itself.

I'm not sure of the problems Sy refers to but there are 1000's of Bluefin handsets out there.

id 100% reccomend the map i have, massively suprised at the improvment over what i had before considering they should have been equivalent to each other performance wise. worth every penny.

my recomendation is to stay with a Vag specialist who wil have more experience and knowledge on the engine. that leaves REVO, APR and sharkperformance, feel free to add more guys

it only seems to be the k03 they have the issue with. i know of a few who had issues, and others who believe they'res is behaving similar.  and it seems to be only @stage 2 onwards it happens. 2 guys on here plus me and a few on briskoda....

stage 1 was very good though, no issues

Ignoring costs, which is better between the basic bluefin and revo for the GTi?
