I use Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 on track, they are fairly light, 8.2 kgs, very strong, they took some hardcore abuse and they're a lot cheaper than Ultras. Maybe they are worth a look, knowing they use them on BTCC. ;)
I use OZ Ultras on street only, with Pilot Super Sport.
I had some experience with a lot of tyres lately, but I only judge performance (I don't care about noise/fuel efficiency or crap like that
). I can say that PSS are the best road tyres i ever used followed by GY Eagle Asymmetric 2.
For track, to really feel the potential of your car and it's mods, i'll advice to use a real semislick tyre, that is still road legal and they are in a different league, if not in a different sport than PSS. You have good breaks, but for sure their potential can only be shown with a good tyre. On my car I'd use real racing slicks, but that will catapult me in a higher class on time attack events and they wear out very fast.
Anyway, there are some good semislicks out there who do the job, all of them are gamechanging compared to a normal tyre and still road legal. I used Toyo R888, Dmack Trackday, Federal FZ-201 and driven cars equipes with PS Cup 2, and Federal RS-R. I'd say that in terms of wear and performance dead last are DMACK, they only lasted 3 trackdays and their performance is equal with Toyo and Federal RS-R (good think they are almost as cheap as RS-R). A bit better are Toyo R888 with the same performance as Federal RS-R, but Federal RS-R have twice the life, the longest life in a semislick tyre, and they are cheap (only Nankang may be cheaper, but i have no experience with them). Then come CUP 2, a bit better performance, but I don't know nothing about wear (i heard they are good). Their sidewall is pretty soft compared to other racing tires, which will result in less steering feedback. The best in terms of performance are Federal FZ-201 which grip and grip and grip until u fall out of the seat, but now they are harder to get and expensive. They wear out faster then RS-R, but they have a fair amount of life for the performance they show, wear is better than Toyo.
I hope this mini review will help u decide, but i'll say again, if u will buy a second set of wheels for track only, get a set of track tyres also (they shave more seconds than a coilover suspension). ;)
